Mrs Katrina L. Perkins

by Katrina Louise Perkins
(Crestview, Florida)

Thirty seven years ago I had the biggest crush on the cutest boy in our neighborhood. As it turns out, he felt the same way. Throughout junior high and high school I never quite got up the nerve to tell him how I really felt about him. He was not only the cutest boy in the neighborhood, but he was also the sweetest and the smartest, so smart that all the other kids in the neighborhood called him "THE PROFESSOR".

After high school, he left and went away to college, it was at this point I lost contact with him. Whie away at college he met and married a beautiful young lady and had two wonderful children. Unfortunately last year his wife of thirty one years passed away.

After his grieving process, he decided that it was time to go looking for the girl that he liked so many years before. It didn't matter that he lived in another state, his mind was made up and he began his journey.

His first attempt was to look on the internet. No luck. His second attempt was to go back to the old neighborhood and ask around to see if anybody knew where I might be. As it happens he ran into an old friend who told him my sister was a police officer and he might try that route. So he did. He even tried hiring a "private investigator", who came up empty handed.

One night he decided to call the police station to see if he could get in contact with my sister. He called and told her his story, which she thought was some kind of cruel joke and asked for my number. She didn't give it to him but said she would instead call me and have me call him back. When she called me I couldn't believe what I was hearing, so I quickly asked for his number and gave him a call. He answered on the first ring.

So now here I was talking to the boy that had first gotten my attention as a pre-teen so many years ago. We dediced it would be great to see one another again, so we scheduled a day and time and on the coldest night in January I got to see him once again. Never in a million years did I think we would fall head over heels in love with one another, but we did.

We re-connected on January 3, 2010, got engaged on March 6, 2010 and were married in a small private ceremony on April 2, 2010. Talk about a whirl wind. I know that my husband is a gift from above, because he is everything I ever wanted and prayed for. I love him with every inch of my being and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him as my husband.
