Wedding Planning Checklist
The following list is provided to give you some structure to the wedding planning process. Even though the information on this site is mainly about wedding receptions, it would be hard to give you a timeline for your wedding reception planning without giving some brief information to help you plan the ceremony as well.
A Year Before the Day (or as soon as you become engaged)
- Select a wedding date
- Put together a guest list. Creating a guest list is one of the most important parts of the wedding planning process. The number of guests has a direct impact on your budget as well as the ceremony and reception venues that you choose
- Create a budget
Eleven months prior
- Develop a theme and color scheme for your day
- Choose a ceremony site
Ten months prior
- Pick the members of your bridal party
- Shop for the bride and bridesmaids dresses
Nine months prior
- Find someone to officiate the ceremony
- Order your wedding dress
Eight months prior
- Research honeymoon destinations
- Find hotel for out-of-town guests, wedding day preparation and wedding night
Seven months prior
- Order bridesmaids dresses
- Set up gift registry
Six months prior
- Select musicians and/or DJ
- Order wedding stationary
- Decide on wedding rings
Five months prior
- Make final guest list
- Find apparel for the groom and groomsmen
- Mail your save-the-date cards
Four months prior
- Select ceremony flowers
- Arrange the rehearsal dinner
Three months prior
- Obtain a marriage license
- Determine decorations
- Send invitations
Two months prior
- Make appointments for hair, make-up, and nails
- Decide on an order for the ceremony
- Get transportation
One month prior
- Confirm arrangements with your vendors
- Get gifts for the bridal party
- Buy your accessories: aisle runner, unity candle, etc.
- Do your final gown fitting
- Select your wedding music
One week prior
- Pay all of your vendors
- Go to bachelor/bachelorette party or bridal shower
The day before
- Have a massage
- Go to the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner
- Get some rest
The wedding day
- Eat a meal
- Go to your appointments (better yet have them come to you)
- Have photos taken
- Enjoy your day
